Court Liaison Services

Court liaisons work in Juvenile Court and Family Court to coordinate services and activities between Louisville Metro Youth Detention Services, the Courts, schools, and other agencies.

Court liaisons perform a vital function to ensure youth who do not meet criteria for secure detention are referred to other programs and services to meet their individual and family needs.

Court liaisons explain program eligibility requirements, guidelines and court proceedings to youth and families.

Court liaisons counsel youth and families, and advise them about agency programs and other community resources.

Court liaisons work cooperatively with other agencies to expedite the transfer of youth and process necessary court documentation for youth in custody so they may be placed in an appropriate non-secure program.

Family Court Function:

  • Assists families with issues pertaining to the family such as divorce, dependency, status domestic violence, and adoption.

Juvenile Functions:

  • Deals with any youth that commits a criminal offense.
