New Residence Inn Louisville Downtown Breaks Ground

Wednesday April 7, 2004

A groundbreaking ceremony attended by Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and other local dignitaries was held today to announce the construction of the new Residence Inn by Marriott Louisville Downtown scheduled to open April 2005, just in time for next year’s Kentucky Derby. Managed by White Lodging Services of Merrillville, IN, the Residence Inn is conveniently located at 333 E. Market Street, at the northwest corner of Market and Preston Street.

“A hotel on this site is a particularly significant project because it shows that there are investors who believe strongly in this part of town”, said Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson. “This hotel will complement the urban look of this area with its thoughtful design based on surrounding buildings and will make this area look more like the cosmopolitan center we have envisioned all along.”

Residence Inns are designed as all-suite hotels that offer studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites. The all-suite design and amenities targets guests with extended stay hotel needs.

The Residence Inn Louisville Downtown will feature 140 suites with separate areas for working, eating and sleeping. Each suite will have a fully equipped kitchen with full-size appliances, microwave oven and coffee maker, plus complimentary high-speed internet access, telephones with voicemail and data ports, iron/ironing board and hairdryer. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast buffet, complimentary weekday social hour, indoor pool and whirlpool, oversized exercise room and a meeting space for groups up to 75. A separate club room, where extended stay guests can relax, will be featured in addition to the gatehouse.

The downtown location of the new Residence Inn Louisville places it in the heart of shopping, dining and entertainment offerings of the city. It is located within a few blocks of Waterfront Park, Louisville Slugger Field, River Walk and 4th Street Live! shopping and entertainment complex and the Louisville Medical Center.
