University Corridor Redevelopment Study

The $75,000 University Redevelopment Corridor Study, funded by Mayor Jerry Abramson and Councilwoman Marianne Butler, will focus on the area known as South Central Louisville. The study boundaries will be South Third Street on the east; South Fourth Street on the west; between Norfolk Southern/CSX railroad tracks that border the University of Louisville (U of L) on the north; and Southern Parkway/Oakdale on the south.

This area represents a key corridor in the redevelopment of central Louisville. The purpose of this study is to review and validate the recommendations and proposals identified in earlier work related to land use, and to develop an action plan for the area.

Recent development and investment have occurred in the vicinity, which present a unique opportunity to create an urban neighborhood that provides connections between the various sites. Some of these sites include
Churchill Downs, Papa John’s Football Stadium, Central Station Mall and the expansion and growth of the University of Louisville.

The study will begin in Fall of 2007, and is scheduled to be complete by Spring of 2008.
