Event Details:
Architect and author Lance Hosey, a nationally recognized expert on sustainable design, will speak at Bellarmine University on Thursday, September 26.
Mr. Hosey will discuss his latest book, The Shape of Green, along with his approach to aesthetics, ecology and design.
“I think people are hungry for a subtler debate about sustainability, what it is, and how it brings meaning into our lives,” said Hosey in a recent building.ca web interview.
As Chief Sustainability Officer for global design firm RTKL and a member of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Market Advisory Committee, Hosey is a popular speaker. He has delivered keynote addresses at events such as SXSW Eco, and Sustainable Brands and is scheduled to appear at this month’s TEDCity2.0, a day-long TED event for urban innovators, organizers, stewards and builders - and at IDEAFESTIVAL.
“This is an amazing opportunity for design and construction professionals, as well as educators, students and consumers, to hear from a nationally recognized expert on topics that go beyond traditional design considerations,” says Nancy Church, Kentucky U.S. Green Building Council Executive Director.
Hosey’s latest book, The Shape of Green: Aesthetics, Ecology, and Design (Island Press, 2012), is the first to study the relationships between sustainability and beauty and outline a set of principles for the aesthetics of sustainable design. With Kira Gould, he is co–author of Women in Green: Voices of Sustainable Design (Ecotone Publishing, 2007), the first book in the design industry to study the links between diversity and sustainability.
This unique opportunity is co-sponsored by AIA’s Central Kentucky Chapter, the Kentucky U.S. Green Building Council and Bellarmine University’s School of Environmental Studies - all of whom share a common mission of advancing sustainability.
This public event begins with a 5:30 p.m. cocktail reception in Frazier Hall – located in Bellarmine’s Brown Activities Center – followed by Hosey’s lecture at 6:30 p.m. A book signing will follow. A VIP dinner with Hosey will follow for young professionals and sponsors.
Tickets for the public are $35 advance, with discounts for young professionals and AIA or Kentucky U.S. Green Building Council members.
