Abramson: Free Concert Series Returns

Wednesday June 6, 2007

-- Republic Bank to sponsor ‘Music in the Metro’ series --
-- Metro parks to host live music on second Sunday through October  --

Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced a lineup of free concerts in parks across Louisville throughout the summer and early fall. In its fifth year, the “Music in the Metro” concert series is sponsored by Republic Bank and showcases local and regional music talent in a different public park on every second Sunday of the month from June through October.

The series will kick off this Sunday, June 10, at McNeely Lake Park, featuring the country-rock band Exile. Events will run from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., starting with children’s activities, games and giveaways followed by the feature concert at 5:30 p.m.

Mayor Abramson joins in at Music in the Metro.

“We are pleased to continue the Music in the Metro series that provides an opportunity for our citizens to come out to our wonderful parks and enjoy some great musical talent,” Abramson said. “Thanks to the new sponsorship of Republic Bank, we are now able to feature a double-bill of high-caliber performers each week with more fun and activities at the concerts each month.”

Steve Trager, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Republic Bank said Republic is delighted to be the title sponsor of the concert series. “As the area’s largest locally owned community bank, we strive to give back to the local communities that have made us successful throughout the years. This concert series will bring great music to many neighborhoods throughout the metro area,” Trager said.

The Metro Parks FestiVan will provide family-friendly games and activities prior to the concert and during the band’s break, including face painting, inflatable games and a rock-climbing wall. Audience-participation events will energize and mobilize young concert-goers as part of the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement. Some concerts will feature themes such as “dog days of summer” at Vettiner Park, where attendees can bring their dogs and try the new dog run park.

Food and refreshment vendors will sell festival fare and guests are welcome to bring picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs. Another new component, the Budweiser Back Stage Beer Garden, will feature additional refreshments.

Abramson said the Republic Bank Music in the Metro series will offer great times for people of all ages and will be “the place” to be on Sunday afternoons for neighbors, friends and families to enjoy original music, entertainment and activities. The concerts will feature a wide variety of musical genres and groups, from country to jazz and soul to rock ‘n’ roll.

Supporting sponsors include Cox Radio, which will feature the series on Lite 106.9, 103.1 WRKA, 107.7 WSFR and New Country 103.9, and Budweiser. In addition, concerts will be featured on Louisville MetroTV, cable channel 25.
