Examples that would require an electrical permit:

1. Adding a new circuit and/or wiring for appliances such as an air conditioner or sump pump.

2. Installing and/or adding receptacles or light fixtures where one did not exist before.

3. Installing and/or adding a new electrical panel and breakers.

4. Restoring power after it has been interrupted because of a hazardous condition.

Examples that would not require an electrical permit:

1. Replacing a receptacle were one already exist.

2. Replacing a faulty circuit breaker of the same size and type.

3. Replacing or changing a light fixture.

4. Installing phones or coax cable (cable TV).



ELECTRICAL FEES

  1. New One & Two family - the fees for the initial installation of electrical wiring in one or two family residence shall be $130.00. This permit fee shall include two (2) inspections.

  2. eCustomer ServicesExisting One & Two family - the fee for a rewire, burnout, new service, repairs or additional wiring in an existing one or two family residence shall be $40.00. This permit fee shall include one (1) inspection.

  3. New Multi-family & Commercial - the fee for the initial installation of new electrical wiring other than in a one or two family residence shall be $40.00 for the base permit, $20.00 for each sub-panel, $20.00 for each dwelling unit in residential structures and $.25 for each ampere at the service entrance up to and including 600 amperes and $.50 for each ampere over 600 amperes. This permit fee shall include two (2) inspections.

  4. Existing Multi-family & Commercial - the fee for a rewire, burnout, new service or repairs in other than one or two family residences shall be $40.00 for the base permit, $20.00 per each sub-panel specifically involved in the work for commercial property, or $20.00 for each dwelling unit specifically involved in the work for residential property. This permit fee shall include one (1) inspection.

  5. Temporary Pole - the fee for the installation of a temporary pole shall be $40.00. This permit fee shall include one (1) inspection.

  6. Additional Inspections - the fee for any additional inspections not covered by the initial permit fee shall be $30.00. The Department shall have the right not to issue any additional permits to the applicant until the additional inspection fees have been paid in full.
