Inspections, Permits and Licenses (IPL) is a division of the Department of Codes & Regulations. IPL issues many different types of permits and licenses and performs many types of inspections. Permit Searches
The most popular section of our website is permit searches. Use permit search to look for a specific permits by address, contractor, permit type, and by permit number.

Construction Review
Plan review, issuance and inspection of building, electrical and mechanical (HVAC) permits. Contractors and Home Owners can find information on how to obtain permits, fees and applications forms. Contractors can obtain some permit types online using IPL's eCustomer Services application.
NOTICE: THERE WILL BE NO ELECTRICAL INSPECTIONS ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2 AND FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2012 DUE TO MANDATORY TRAINING FOR ELECTRICAL INSPECTORS.

Property Maintenance
The inspection staff responds to complaints regarding Property Maintenance Code for existing structures and Land Development Code (Zoning Enforcement) throughout Metro Louisville. Cases can be tracked using IPL's eCustomer Services application. Submit a new complaint using Metro Call 311 online application by clicking here.
License & Permits
Issuance, enforcement and inspection of ABC, Ground Transportation (Taxi/Limo Drivers) vending, charitable, online special events licensing and various other permits and licenses. Find information on how to obtain each of these permits and/ or licenses and obtain application forms and fees.

Code Enforcement Board
Hears appeals from Citations/Violation Notices issued by Property Maintenance Division, LMPD, Corrections, Solid Waste Management Services and Animal Services Department for notices regarding housing/property issues, public nuisance, noise, false alarms, booking fees, illegal dumping/trash and animal violations.
