GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)
On July 1, 2007 the Geographical Information System (GIS department) relocated to MetroSafe, which is the consolidated dispatch center for the Louisville Metro area and surrounding counties. We are not only responsible for the Communication Aided Dispatch (CAD) map, but we are also the Addressing Authority for Louisville Metro/Jefferson County.
We are located at 410 South Fifth Street. GIS staffs six people in-house that maintains the entire addressing and street data network for our community. We average around 3,500 new addresses each month and 120 new or updated street centerlines. Currently, there are over 387,000 site addresses and 32,000 street segments in Louisville Metro.
For the CAD map we update Fire, Police and EMS geographical information such as the response zones, mapbox information and district/divisional information. With GIS data, we can plot run information and pinpoint target hazard areas.
