U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cabinet Secretary Janet Napolitano visited EMA/MetroSafe on Thursday, October 7, 2010.
Cabinet Secretary Janet Napolitano met with 40 plus first-responders and other governmental agency representatives, where dialogue was had regarding federal cooperation on issues such as FEMA reimbursement, federal police grants, and coordinating medical response during disasters.
No area of our great nation is immune to suspicious activity, she said. With that, Cabinet Secretary Janet Napolitano urged Mayor Jerry Abramson to adopt the federal campaign - “If you see something, say something.” Mayor Abramson is considering adding the slogan to Louisville Metro Police Department’s tip line – 574-LMPD or 574-5673.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Napolitano toured EMA/MetroSafe Communications Center, which is one of the most prominent dispatch centers in the nation. She added Louisville is well-served by the MetroSafe Building, which was constructed using $27 million in federal Homeland Security funding.
