Seeks Vendor to Implement Citywide Alerts
Mayor to meet with Rubbertown residents on Monday
MetroSafe today assumed responsibility for activating the Rubbertown Community Action Line and Mayor Greg Fischer announced that Metro Government will purchase an alert system that can be used citywide to keep the public better informed about emergencies.
The mayor also announced that he will meet with Rubbertown residents at 7 p.m. Monday at the Southwick Community Center to discuss ways the city will improve the notification system.
MetroSafe began updating the RCALL line today with the latest information, including about how severe weather originally forecasted for today could have impact the disaster scene at Carbide Industries. RCALL, 574-2580, was created several years ago specifically to provide information to Rubbertown residents about emergencies and hazards related to the chemical plants in the area.
“This will ensure that there is no lag time in communication,” Fischer said. “MetroSafe operators can react in real time and record messages on the RCALL line so the public may call for details.”
The mayor said the city soon will begin seeking proposals for the purchase of an alert system that could be used citywide, unlike the RCALL system which was devised only for use in Rubbertown.
The new alert system would use updated technology that would alert citizens about emergencies though a variety of measures, including text messages.
