Train Derailment Cost Recovery Claims
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 27, 3012) -- Paducah & Louisville Railway announced today that it will continue to accept detour-mileage claims in connection with the Oct. 29, 2012, south Louisville train derailment through 5:00 p.m. Sat., Jan. 19, 2013. Thereafter, only claims related to business losses, evacuee expenses, and first responder costs will be processed.
Individuals may make claims for excess mileage travelled while Dixie Highway was closed, as well as costs incurred due to evacuations, by calling 800-786-5204; that number is answered by claims handlers who provide information about what claims are being paid and the documents that need to be provided. Then callers will be mailed a form, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope in which to return the completed form and other required documentation. Once the claims office has all the necessary information, a check will be mailed to the claimant.
Those with business-related claims may continue to call 502-492-5937 for information about filing and finalizing their claims.
To date, Paducah & Louisville Railway has made more than 5,000 reimbursements to claimants to reimburse them for out-of-pocket costs related to the derailment, including relocation, child care, and mileage. The company has also reimbursed first responders and schools for certain incurred costs.
