Last year, nearly 18,000 volunteers provided over $5 million in service to Louisville. Like you, they want to live in a better place, build skills and learn new ones, and meet new people.

Driven by volunteers, Brightside's mission is to keep Louisville clean and green. Community Action Partnership (CAP)
Community Action Partnership changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other. CAP offers many volunteer opportunities, including Meals on Wheels, the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), Senior Nutrition, and AmeriCorps.

Community Relations & Special Events
Gain valuable experience and/or community service hours for your resume by volunteering.
Some of our larger special events include: The Memorial and Labor Day Hike and Bikes, Light Up Louisville and the Family Friendly New Year’s Eve. Some of the volunteer duties include greeting guests, passing out t-shirts, carrying parade signs and collecting evaluations.

 Human Services
The department’s work centers on providing assistance needed by members of our community at different periods in their lives. The ultimate goal is to strengthen individuals and families, providing the underpinning for a strong community. The department offers many volunteer opportunities through the Office for Women, Office For Aging and Disabled Citizens, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and the Office On Homelessness.

Jefferson Memorial Forest
The Jefferson Memorial Forest volunteer program offers numerous volunteer opportunities for those interested in helping Metro Parks meet its mission in the areas of trails, land stewardship and nature-based programming. These opportunities are available at the Forest and other Metro Parks natural areas across Louisville.

Louisville Zoo
Volunteers have been making a difference at the Louisville Zoo for over 30 years. Share your time, talent and enthusiasm in a stimulating environment and you will not go away empty handed. Volunteer benefits include learning about the animal world, its ecology and conservation, making new friends, developing new skills and contributing to the quality of life in your community.

 Metro Animal Services
Louisville Metro Animal Services receives roughly 50 animals a day. With the help from our volunteers we are able to socialize them, clean their cages, wash their food bowls, and so much more.

 Metro Corrections
Metro Corrections relies on community volunteer efforts to provide effective Inmate and Program Services to Offenders. We feel it is extremely important to offer educational, self-help, social services and religious programming in order to provide a wide range of diversified programs that will ultimately help prepare the offenders for more successful reintegration into our community.

The Louisville Metro Public Health & Wellness - Senior Medicare Patrol
 The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) empowers seniors to prevent healthcare fraud. The SMP program recruits and trains senior volunteers and professionals such as doctors, nurses, accountants, investigators, law enforcement personnel, attorneys, teachers, and others to help Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries become better health care consumers.

Louisville Metro Archives
Louisville Metro Archives houses approximately  40,000 cu feet of boxed records and over 5,000 volumes of bound records for Louisville Metro government that date from 1779 to the present day. By following accepted recordkeeping practices and approved retention schedule, we keep our agencies legally compliant and efficiently store, maintain and recall records throughout their lifecycle. For records of significant historical value, we store and preserve as well as catalog and transcribe their contents. We also work on repair and protection of these pieces of living history. If your interests lie in the field of records information management or archiving and historic preservation, we may be just the “thing” for you!
